|The Redlands Unified School District will host a series of information sessions about the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for current RUSD parents. These sessions will educate our parents about the CCSS, our plan for transitioning to the CCSS, the shifts in instruction and assessment required by the CCSS, and how parents can best support their students in achieving the expectations outlined in these new standards. I’m sure you noticed the “Bully” writing assignment last week. We have also had 2 discussion sessions concerning this. Students get easily annoyed with one another after they have shared a classroom for most of a year. However, that doesn’t excuse speaking rudely, being disrespectful, and/or making fun of others. The “climate’ changed after spring break. I hope you spoke with your son or daughter when the assignment was sent home. If not, please do so this week. Thank you for your support! We need to let them know there is still “zero” tolerance for this behavior.
We begin testing next week. Students worked on practice tests last week with the laptops. Their computer skills are good and improving every day! Working on the weekly language arts assessments has certainly helped as well as the power points they have created this year.
Students will create another power point on a university/college they would like to attend. We will begin next week. I want them to include a video this time. More information to come!
Please check Renaissance Home Connect! Students need 30 AR points and 30 AM objectives by Friday, April 25. Students need to attend to their goals. They do affect grades.
We have a PTA sponsored assembly on Friday, April 25. “Women in History” will be presented at 10:00 AM to grades 4 and 5.
Have a great week! Happy Earth Day!
